Don't Be a Fashion Stereotype

When it comes to college, fashion is not exactly the first thing that comes to a student’s mind. As I look around my classes, and at the masses of people going in and out of the University Center, I am bombarded by a sea of hoodies, sweat pants, sneakers, and hair that was not important enough to comb. It seems as though everyone is a walking stereotype.

Did I miss the memo that said go to class in whatever you went to sleep in? It seems to be a shared ideology that once you go to college “it doesn’t matter how you look,” but that’s WRONG and couldn’t be further away from the truth.

Being a student is an occupation. You wouldn’t exactly go to work in a old t-shirt, sweat pants, and your sneakers with the soles coming out would you?

Clearly the purpose of attending college is to get an education and not to walk the runway at fashion week. At the same time you have to realize that first impressions are lasting impressions and your professors are your future bosses, job references, and networking connections.

Here are a few fashion staples that could allow you to be fashionable and comfortable at the same time: leggings, tall boots without heels, cardigans with the draped front, and beret hats.

Leggings are tight enough to show your curves and stretchy enough so you don’t feel restricted. Tall boots with no heels bring sass and attitude to your wardrobe while efficiently getting you to and from class. Cardigans with the draped front are flattering on every body type because the arms are fitted and its flowing at the front, not causing any attention around the midsection. Last but certainly not least beret hats are the ultimate staple because it’s 100% sure to hide bad hair days and give you an effortless polished look.
