Movie Review of 'Dear John'

If you liked 'Pearl Harbor', then you’ll most likely love 'Dear John'. 'Dear John' is a combination war drama and romance movie. Since it was based off a Nicholas Sparks book, I thought it would be similar to 'The Notebook'-every girl’s favorite movie.

The connection and chemistry Rachel McAdams had with Ryan Gosling in 'The Notebook' set the bar for what was expected from 'Dear John'. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, and he goes off to war. Of course they write back and forth, with the intentions of staying together throughout the length of the war.

The movie starts off strong but once the climax of the movie hits, it begins to fizzle. The plot roped in many girls, and their boyfriends, to see the movie in hopes of a romantic love story. It was just that, yet somewhat left the viewer a little unsatisfied.

Channing Tatum can have a somewhat stoic personality and Amanda Seyfried is cut short of some camera time while the focus is on Tatum at war. While not a terrible movie, it is a tear-jerker that could have been a lot stronger with more action scenes at battle.

To grade it? B- with room for improvement.
