Baggin' the Baggy Pants...

What happened to pants showing off a person’s shape? This is a question I’ve asked myself a lot over the past few years and apparently, State Senator Eric Adams has the same question.

On March 29th, he used $2,000 in campaign funds and six 22-foot-tall billboards in Brooklyn to get his message out. Many men not only in Brooklyn, but throughout the country have been wearing their “pants below their waist”, as rapper DJ Khaled would say.

I’d have to say I am in agreement with Senator Adams’ messages of “We are better than this!” and “Stop the sag!”. Although some females would find this look on men attractive, I beg to differ. I don’t feel that it is necessary for people to know what color or design you have on your boxer shorts. The trend has spread from prison inmates, to so-called “thugs”, to even the average joe. It’s rare to find a guy who wears pants that fit him these days, they seem to be three sizes too big or five sizes too small on many young men.

The question of how individuals wearing their pant’s so low are able to walk normally was also asked by Sen. Adams. In my own observations, I have noticed that men who do wear their pants so low seem to have difficulties walking, almost waddling to keep their pants up. While some young men find that it is more comfortable to wear their pants lower and feel that “older people just don’t get it”, I’d have to say I don’t consider myself “older” and still don’t get it.

In the words of American Idol contestant Larry Platt, “lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground”.
